The skills of successful CEO candidates have shifted. Tech-savvy candidates with experience on investment teams, as well as more operational and public-facing aspects of the business, have seen their stock rise. According to George Wilbanks, “candidates who acquire know-how in multiple parts of the business early on tend to be standouts…’They’re highly qualified investors, they’ve been involved in distribution, but they’ve also typically had roles in strategy, finance, technology.’”
