Accurate information is always critical in periods of uncertainty and heightened volatility, and I am a real primary data hound, if for no other reason than to combat “animal spirits” and unintended behavioral biases. I am fortunate to have a daughter (Professor Lizzy Wilbanks) who is a research professor in #microbiology at UC Santa Barbara, and she shared a presentation by a virologist in her department, Professor Carolina Arias, which was made last Thursday, March 12, to the administration of the University as they worked to respond to the crisis. Thanks to Professor Arias for her discerning comments, which are presented in a clear format for the non-scientist, but provide sufficient detailed scientific insights to clarify many misconceptions.
