Incoming Independent Directors Council Chair Bill Ebsworth, IDC President Thomas Kim, and the entire IDC staff did a great job creating a valuable three days in Chicago at the IDC’s 2024 Annual Fund Directors Conference last week. The lineup of speakers was impressive and educational, and as always, the networking opportunities were fantastic. Congratulations to Cynthia Plouchet for two years of hard work as the outgoing Chair. I enjoyed speaking with so many of the IDC Governing Council members who have been friends and clients for years. The discussions with SEC staff members Natasha Vij Greiner, Director, Division of Investment Management; and Vanessa L. Horton-Emmanuel, National Associate Director, Investment Adviser/Investment Company Examination Program, were particularly engaging and informative. Investment Company Institute CEO Eric Pan‘s commentary on the industry trends, regulation, and macro issues affecting the fund business was, as always, enlightening.
The weather in Chicago was clear and warm for the fall, allowing for some good exercise and great views within walking distance of the Fairmont Hotel.
We will be back next year and look forward to seeing everyone at the 2025 Investment Management Conference in San Diego in March and the 2025 Leadership Summit in Washington in May
