Every year, we look forward to the joy of celebrating the progress our society has made over the last 5+ decades in speaking out against injustice with our LGBTQ+ friends and business partners. My journey went from casual supporter, going back to my days in high school with friends coming out, to the serious reality of my own daughter’s discovery, making the journey for justice highly personal. The highlight of my recent experiences was being able to personally thank Douglas Hallward-Driemeier for his work with several others that led to the victory for gay marriage in the Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges at an Out Leadership Executive Summit in 2018. This ruling made it possible for my daughter and her wife to enjoy the same benefits and protections afforded all Americans when raising a family that now includes two children.

I know so many people who have their own story about the importance of equality in our society that makes it worthwhile speaking about injustice when it is not easy, popular, or profitable. It has been sad and painful to watch so many business and political leaders follow the path of hatred dominant in the current administration and halls of Congress.

Stay optimistic, focus on primary data, and speak out against injustice.
